It’s Saturday evening and tomorrow’s a free day. It’s bad but I’m about to get busy with not being busy. I’ve done quite a bit and I want some relax time. Although, I almost feel like I’ve done too much relaxing already.

Then again, I’ve managed to do quite a bit of reading this week. Which is a huge step-up from the week before. This calls for a celebration in the means of giving myself some off time.

This is bad. Yes, I’m arguing with myself but it’s pretty pointless because, despite the time, I’m working up a sweat while just sitting down here. The air is quite humid and the temperature’s approaching impossibly hot at this time of day. Night.

I’m quite useless against this kind of heat. Which is exactly why, during the summer, I’m only truly functional when dark sets in because that’s when the temperature starts dropping.

I was trying to work through that weakness last summer but all I have built up were rendered useless when I lost my one computer. Now, I’m still trying to get back to my old rhythm and it hasn’t been any easy but I’m getting there. Rewards are always a good thing so it looks like I’m gonna give myself a Saturday night, after all.

And, finish I did. But look at that clock! It’s already 1:22 am.

I wonder if I will be able to wake up as early as I should tomorrow. I mean, later.

My playlist has looped back. #NowPlaying Taylor Swift‘s I Knew You Were Trouble.

Wow, I can’t believe this.

It’s already was past my self-appointed bedtime and August 30th is way over. This is so not healthy. But I have to finish this report and finish this I will.

#NowPlaying Taylor Swift‘s I Knew You Were Trouble.

“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. For man also does not know his time; like fish taken in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.” Ecclesiastes 9:5-12

If this doesn’t move you, I really wouldn’t know what to say.

“God doesn’t grow weary of hearing us. He’s not playing some game with us to see how long or how many times we will keep returning.

“His promise is to hear us and not neglect us. He is saying: Stay with Me when you’re healthy and happy and your needs are met. Stay with Me when you have a job and your bank account is full. Stay with Me when the sun is shining and life is good and the wind is at your back. Stay with Me when you have the answers, the friends and the applause of the crowd. Stay with Me when you’re confident, wise and sound.

“Stay with Me, He says, when life is good, and then you’ll learn to fear Me in all things, and the wealth and goods you have will serve you and others well.

“But also: Stay with Me, He says, when you’re lean and hungry and don’t know where the next meal will come from. Stay with Me, He says, when your health fails or an accident happens and you suffer as never before. Stay with Me, He says, when all you have worked for crumbles before your eyes and those whose friendship you coveted cannot remember your name. Stay with Me, God says, when you are so lonely and afraid the thought of getting out of bed each day presents a near impossible struggle.

“Stay with Me, He says, one more day, one more time and one more prayer.”

– excerpt from Stay with Me: The Parable of the Persistent Widow by Darris McNeely published in The Good News (May – June 2013)

“Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter, and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

J.K. Rowling, 2008 Harvard Commencement Address

So, what was I gonna do again tonight?

Right, those articles that need to be paid attention to and that can only mean, those articles that need writing.

And fighting with myself not to recognize Monday for what it is.

I still couldn’t get back to my old rhythm. I’m not surprised but that doesn’t mean that I can like this sort of pattern happening with me right now.

I’m waiting for the next term to begin and am hoping that all will come back to me by then for I will once again be truly be in the UoPeople system.

Speaking of which, I believe it’s time to check back on them regarding the action plan we submitted for the establishment of an ACM Student Chapter in the UoPeople. There should be something from them by now. Then again, Dr. Zeller said something about “keeping in touch in the next few weeks”. The process will take much longer than we, without saying it directly, initially thought. At least, I didn’t take it would take so long as “a few weeks”. I was thinking more on the lines of “a few days”.

Pipe dream, much?

Not as bad as pipe dream but I should remind myself to factor in the fact that, when we get established, we would be the first university-recognized club/organization in the world’s first tuition-free online university. That’s a big deal.

I should sleep.

It’s almost half past ten in the evening and I’m supposed to be sleeping by 10:00 pm.

And, yet, despite the fact that I can’t make myself start anything at this hour for anything I try to work on can might take so long to finish and I don’t like leaving things unfinished, I don’t feel like sleeping yet. But I should.

All of that change from the previous one [] can be attributed to all the media I copied from my phone.

And, yes, this one is more functional than it has been since I received it for I have received the USB2.0 CardBus which makes card slot in this machine usable while enabling the machine to access USB 2.0 sticks.

Not up to par to a normal bus as I have observed but it’s functional and, right now, that’s what I need.

Today has only been completely unproductive.

It’s August the 21st. It’s a holiday in honor of Ninoy Aquino whose assassin has never been identified even after the many that has passed ever since that fateful day. As the time passes, the likelihood of that case ever being solved diminishes.

Now, this being a holiday, there were no classes. I, however, have planned to get a lot of things done before sundown.

As with any of the plans I’ve ever had before, it never came to be.

It’s a holiday and I felt what I’d call the Holiday Effect. It’s similar to the Sunday Effect, only much stronger. The pull to idle about while everyone else is doing the exact same thing is quite strong. But who wants to be just like everybody else?

Nevertheless, I couldn’t get the better of myself. I practically spent the entire morning sleeping. I only acknowledged my alarm clocks just to dismissed them. I only had the time to get some water ready for my bath and drink my hot morning chocolate.

After that, nothing. I didn’t even take that bath until mid-afternoon. At about 2:00 pm.

I don’t remember doing anything at all after that.

A bit of reading and a lot of reruns and it was dinner time.

Then, I had continued watching that movie and another one.

Now, I’m typing all wondering how I could have let an entire day simply slip away from me while do absolutely nothing.

So much for a holiday.

Then again, a holiday is supposed to be that time when you take a break. Still, that doesn’t mean I can ever like a day which has been spent in the manner that I did today.

I didn’t realize the time.

Which is a good thing right now. That means I was doing something I like doing.

In the end, I couldn’t get that conky to work but I figured out why it wasn’t working: it was indeed missing that function that it was tying to call.

I still wanted a working conky on top of my desktop, though, so I tried using one of the old conkys I had which didn’t work before either but I got to tweaking.

I took Nucleus from LB’s conky pack and modified it to suit my system and my current wallpaper which is Shutter (blue) by matchbookgirl.

I should be able to bend this and other conkys to my will soon.

I’m trying to write these down again so that I may be able to get back to my old and very productive rhythm. I mean, I should be able to already. I have a working computer again and I have been able to set it up to my preferences.

Then again, it’s still not reading my USB sticks and the card hasn’t arrived yet so my working files are still pretty much inaccessible to me from here. It should arrive soon since the half of the month is already over. Otherwise, it wouldn’t arrive, ever.

Now, I’ll try to figure conky out and see if I can find that one thing that makes it produce such error as the following:

Conky: llua_do_call: function conky_clock_rings execution failed: attempt to call a nil value

Of course, I have been Googling but I couldn’t find the solution just yet.
